Node Types

Learn about each node type and when to use it.

Every form is built from nodes. Each node represents a step in the form - a question for respondents, a welcome screen, or an end screen. You add nodes by dragging them from the toolbar on the left side of the canvas.

Choice

A multiple-choice node with predefined answer options. This is the most common node type.

When to use it: surveys, quizzes, feedback forms, polls - any time you want respondents to pick from a set of answers.

What you can configure:

  • Single or multiple selection - let respondents pick one answer or several
  • Answer key - set which options are correct and enable scoring (great for quizzes)
  • Show feedback - show correct/incorrect indicators after selection
  • Randomise options - shuffle the order options appear to reduce bias

Open-Ended

A free-form response node where respondents can reply however they want.

When to use it: collecting detailed feedback, testimonials, or open-ended responses where you don't want to constrain the answer.

What you can configure:

  • Response formats - choose which response types to allow: text, audio recording, or video recording. You can enable any combination. By default, all three are available.

Contact

A structured node for collecting contact information with standard fields.

When to use it: lead capture, registration forms, collecting respondent details at the end of a form.

Available fields: First name, Last name, Email, Phone, Company, Job title, Website, LinkedIn, and a free-text Message field. You choose which fields to include and which are required.

What you can configure:

  • Heading and description - customise the text above the form fields
  • Field selection - toggle which fields appear and mark them as required or optional
  • Consent checkboxes - add privacy policy or terms of service checkboxes

Button

A simple screen with a single button. No respondent input, just a prompt and a call to action.

When to use it: welcome screens, intros, transition screens between sections, or acknowledgements.

What you can configure:

  • Button text - the label on the button (defaults to "Continue")
  • Button style - primary, secondary, or outline

End Screen

The final screen respondents see after completing the form. Every form has at least one.

When to use it: every form needs an end screen. You can also create multiple end screens for different outcomes (e.g. different results based on quiz scores).

What you can configure:

  • Title and message - the thank-you text
  • Icon - choose from tick, trophy, star, crown, party, or none
  • Show score - display the respondent's quiz score (see Scoring)
  • Call to action - add a button to restart the form or link to an external URL

Redirect

A terminal node that sends respondents to an external URL when they reach it.

When to use it: directing respondents to a payment page, a booking link, your homepage, or any external URL after completing the form. Use this instead of an End Screen when you want respondents to leave Clipform entirely.

What you can configure:

  • Destination URL - the URL respondents are sent to
  • Delay - optionally show a brief message before redirecting

Adding media to nodes

Choice, Open-Ended, Button, and End Screen nodes all support media. Click on any node and use the media section to add a video or image. You can:

  • Record video from your webcam
  • Upload a video or image file
  • Search the built-in stock media library

Media is what turns a standard form into a conversational experience.
